The Gay Beach – Patong

Patong has one of the few specifically Gay Beaches in Thailand (I only know of the one at Jomtien, Pattaya apart from this). This is slightly less developed and a fraction less commercialised, although there are the usual flow of vendors coming round. Don’t see the massage boys and there aren’t quite as many sellers as in Pattaya.

The chairs are restricted to loungers. These are 100B each. There is a small booth at the back where you can have nice massages. They’re not rude – it’s a public place, but if you get the right masseur, they can get interesting. The one I had certainly knew how to get you relaxed in all the right places and stiff in others!

The place was packed when we were there. At 12.30 it was hard to get a couple of loungers together. By 2 pm they were almost turning people away. And this was March! Good place to hang out and relax.

And I better tell you where it is. Go along the beach road and look inland for the Royal paradise Hotel tower. It’s directly opposite that. There’s an immigration office on the beach side of beach road, and there’s a small passageway down the left hand side. It looks as if it doesn’t go anywhere, but in fact it does. There are plenty of boys and plenty of boats and plenty to do if you want more than just to laze in a deckchair. And if the smile on the boy in the centre photo is anything to go by …

Hairdresser – in alley between Connect and Backstage, Paradise Complex

There are two hairdressers/barbers in Paradise, this is one. I swear it doesn’t have a name. None of the farang knew it, none of the Thai boys did and I called in and asked and they didn’t know either.

But it’s for people with a desire to look their best. A cut and style is 100B. The main thing is its location. It’s right by the side of Backstage, and as such, makes a great place to look in and study the skill and technique of the boys in there. I WAS TALKING ABOUT THEIR HAIRDRESSING SKILL!

W Travel – outside 13 Sawasdeeruk Road

Really friendly travel agent on the Sawasdeeruk Road. Not hard to find. If you’re in the Paradise complex, come out to the main road and turn right. Walk about 3 minutes and take the first main road on the left (in other words cross over the 200 year Road). The stall is on the right about 50m down the Sawasdeeruk Road. Alternately go into Backstage and ask for Rob – possibly the most helpful man in Phuket! He can give you directions to them.

OK we’re there now. They offer all the usual travel agent stuff, tours at a good rate, information, and they are reliable and friendly. Their drivers are smart and the cars new and clean. We have no hesitation on recommending them.
