Late Night Gay Karaoke and Gay Discos in Chiang Mai

The real gay scene in Chiang Mai is found away from the commercial tourist venues familiar to many visitors. It’s a bit like the Saphan Khwai and Ramkhamhaeng University areas in Bangkok. The same “I’m sorry” applies here and I’m not going to repeat it. There are many gay karaoke bars in Chiang Mai. Some of them are strictly Thai for Thai, but there’s a couple where you’ll be welcomed. These we have listed. They are open until VERY late and have a large staff of young male waiters who will join you (and frequently go off with you if you ask). Some have cabaret, which can get quite rude! Whichever way you do it, my recommendation is as always to take a Thai boy with you and follow what they do. Ask him about private rooms, shows and all things related.

But do be careful. If you wander around the streets in the early hours of the morning, all the usual warnings apply.

Discos

For the visiting foreigner the choice is limited: the foreigner friendly venues are tourist orientated; whilst the venues more popular with local gays don’t welcome foreigners. None are 100% gay.

Barocco Karaoke – Off Soi Erawan, Chang Puek Road

Was predominantly becoming a bar for Ladies but since June 2010 has a new owner and has reverted to fully gay.

Down the small Soi opposite Circle Pub. Chaing Mai’s premier late night Karaoke club in a comfortable lounge style setting with Sofa seating and big screen TV’s everywhere. Many handsome waiters work there and can keep you company. There are Coyote dancers and they also, have food available and VIP rooms upstairs.

Relax Karaoke – Chiang Mai Lamphun Road (Superhighway)

On south side of the super highway. About 250M from Khwangsing intersection between the Computer Plaza and SiamRad hospital.
Probably the best known and oldest late night Karaoke club in Chiang Mai, very dark, very loud, very Thai, and unbeatable fun!

There’s an interesting entry for Relax in the Chiang Mai Gay News Blog here. An extract from the blog says “Relax is the dark side of Chiang Mai at it’s best. A late night Karaoke may not be everyone’s favourite choice of where to go, and not for those of a weak disposition, but if you are young, or young at heart, and are still up for loud music and partying until dawn it doesn’t get much better in Chiang Mai.” Click this link here for the full entry with photos.
