There’s a new owner to an old friend in Sunee Plaza. The former Galapagos Guesthouse (that’s the old one opposite the swimming pool, with the jungle and the turtles outside) has been re-named “Gurke” (that’s German for cucumber – hence the sign).
Our man spoke to the Thai lady who runs it, and she was very helpful. They expect to be open in around a week. They are just applying for the license now. They have a bar for drinks (we think it’s for non-guests as well as guests. Now the jungle’s gone people might go in there!)
As we just said, the old jungle has been cleared away and it’s far less “threatening” (see photo left for the OLD Galapagos) and more welcoming.
They have seven rooms and charge 600B a night for them. There isn’t any wi-fi, but there are a number of other hotspots around.
They intend to offer breakfast shortly, and maybe open the café up to evening meals, but that’s a plan for the future.
Here’s a few photos our man took. Oh and the good news, the two surviving turtles have been transferred to a new indoor tank. Rumours that the largest and oldest one has been served up by one of the French restaurants as soup are said to be scandalous and not worth repeating here!
As soon as they are open we will try to get a look at some of the rooms and report back on the standard. They plan to paint the outside and clean up generally. When they do we will take some new photos which show the place better.
